Ray Johnstone, 75, from Lewiston in South Australia, was looking for a new fishing partner – after his previous friend had died. So he posted an ad on Gumtree:
“I am a Land Based Fisherman I have all the gear for all types of fish that is required for Land Based Fishing [sic]what I want is a fishing mate in a similar position to myself who also wants someone to go fishing with,” it read.
A great catch
It sounds like a strange request, but it worked – the ad went viral, netting over 60,000 views, and the widowed pensioner has been flooded with offers for new fishing mates.
He’s even received an all-expenses paid charter at Stradbroke Island in Queensland.
