Worried about an older person living at home? You can organise a wellbeing check for them

0

In April, we told you that the Aged Care Minister, Senator Richard Colbeck, had announced the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) would be calling to check on your wellbeing if you had decided to put your home care services on hold during the coronavirus pandemic.

Now the Government is expanding this phone service to all home care and CHSP recipients – regardless of whether you have maintained your services or not.

However, the service will be reliant on referrals from others. While many home care and CHSP providers are already keeping a close eye on their clients – especially those who have deferred services – if you are worried about someone, you can make a referral to OPAN.

OPAN will be able to discuss any concerns, check on the supports they have in place and can also advise on alternative aged care services if necessary.

Providers, carers and those who want to refer someone to the service – with their consent and knowledge – can do so by contacting OPAN on 1800 237 981 or emailing covid@opan.com.au.

You can also find out more about the service here.
