World’s oldest human reveals what keeps her alive

Kane Tanaka, the world’s oldest human being, has celebrated her 119th birthday at the aged care home in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka, where she has lived since September 2018.

Born on 2 January, 1903, she has been the oldest living human for three years after being recognised by Guinness World Records in March 2019. Her goal is to live until she is 120 years old.

“I would like to personally congratulate her soon,” Tanaka‘s 62-year-old grandson, Eiji, said. “I hope she remains healthy and has fun everyday as she grows older.”

According to Kyodo News, Kane likes keeping her brain active by solving number puzzles and is a fan of carbonated drinks and chocolate.

Born prematurely in 1903, she married Hideo Tanaka in 1922, according to the Guinness World Records. The couple had four children and adopted a fifth child. During World War II, she worked in a store selling shiruko and udon noodles with her husband.

After Hideo and her son died during the war, she continued working in the store before retiring at the age of 63.

Kane is not the oldest person ever – that title is held by French woman Jeanne Louise Calment, who lived to 122 years.

But still, we have to congratulate her on a life well-lived.
