This is a joke – or not a joke.
The News Corp tabloid issued the cheeky response to the ‘Great Toilet Paper Crisis of 2020’ (who would have thought that would ever be a trending topic?) on Thursday for Territorians who missed out on loo roll as supermarkets across the country sold out as panic over coronavirus grows.
“Run out of loo paper? The NT News cares,” the paper read. “That’s why we’ve printed an eight-page special lift out inside, complete with handy cut lines, for you to use in an emergency. Get your limited edition one-ply toilet newspaper sheets.”
Social media users were understandably bemused by the stunt, particularly since the Northern Territory seems to be the only part of the country where Australians haven’t stocked up on an insanely huge amount of toilet paper this week.
The rush on Sorbent has led Woolworths to put a four-unit limit on toilet paper purchases for its customers – despite the Retailers Association saying there is no real risk of the country seeing a loo roll shortage.
That said, if you’ve got a copy of the newspaper, looks like you’re set for a few days.
