What are retirement villages doing to support residents in isolation? Here is one answer from Stockland

The vision every night on the TV news of the thousands of residents in the Melbourne Towers locked up for six weeks is concerning. It is a long time with no social interaction or physical exercise!

What happens then in retirement villages in lockdown? They too are communities.

We have covered before that most village operators and their managers swung into action, providing programs of support for residents.

One of the best we have seen was put together by Stockland – they created an ‘Iso-aide’ kit of diverse and really interesting activities for ‘the body and for the soul’.

Here are a couple we really liked.

The first is a link to virtual tours of Buckingham Palace and other European palaces. It is fascinating – just click on the article below and check it out for yourself.

Stockland has also provided a great link to the world’s best art galleries and museums zoos and aquariums. Amazing. You can check it out by clicking on the article below as well.

These are just two of many ideas on how you can have a truly great mind expanding experience in isolation, rather than getting depressed watching daytime TV!

You can download the Stockland Iso-aide here.

More importantly, what it demonstrates is that residents of retirement villages are not alone. The management have a sense of duty of care plus you have other residents making up your community.

Perhaps it’s not ‘true isolation’.
