Visitors to Scottish castle warned to be on watch – for “very angry badger”

0

Yes, really. The 16th-century defences Craignethan Castle in South Lanarkshire proved to be no match for the nocturnal mammal which invaded its cellar tunnel, forcing the stronghold to close to visitors.

The unwanted visitor forced Historic Environment Scotland to issue this warning to tourists.

Badgers are a protected species in the UK so they can’t be deliberately killed, injured or taken. Their burrows are also protected – and what is a tunnel if not a giant burrow?

It now seems that the unwanted invader has vacated the tunnel with staff doing a “little housekeeping” before it’s re-opened to the public.

We’re guessing the badger is back home in need of its chill-out.
