Are you expecting a new arrival (or know someone who is)? At a loss for what to name them? Well, fear not, because Ikea of all places has your back.
Branching out from flat-pack furniture and delicious meatballs, the Swedish furniture giant’s Norwegian branch is now offering a free baby name catalogue with actual names it’s given product lines throughout the decades. This isn’t as bizarre as it sounds – while many Ikea offerings are named after Swedish geography, a lot of them have names you can give an actual person as well.
“Finding the name of the child can be both difficult and fun. We at Ikea have given names to products for more than 70 years.
“So, if you are completely stuck, or just want some inspiration – here you will find over 800 boy names and girl names. Everything from popular Ivar to more rare names like Moalie,” the retailer said.
What we want to know is – why stop at just the more “traditional” baby names in this catalogue? Sure, BILLY and FRIDA and OSCAR are nice enough names, but there’s plenty of inspiration in Ikea’s product range if you know where to look.
Just imagine dropping young MÖRBYLÅNGA and FJÄDERMOLN off at school and watching them run off to play with their friends BJÖRKSNÄS, SOCKERKAKA and ÖDMJUK… while also being grateful their assembly process didn’t involve Allen keys.
