America’s ABC network is looking to expand its ‘The Bachelor’ reality franchise – with a call out for men and women 65-plus to throw their hats in the ring for a chance at love on the small screen.
ABC’s head of alternative programming Rob Mills tweeted a call out to Bachelor fans this week: “Bachelornation, give us your Grumpiest Old Men, give us your Goldenest Girls,” – a reference to two of the most popular comedies featuring mature lead characters (pictured above).
“Now casting Seniors Looking for Love! Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance? The Producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women IN THEIR GOLDEN YEARS for a new exciting dating show!” the casting notice on their site reads
The show reportedly has not been ordered by the network yet, with the green light dependent on finding the right cast (sounds like they’d like the real-life Blanche Devereaux from the ad).
But putting the ageist language (golden years?) aside, we think a dating show for the more mature crowd would be much more interesting than the current crop of reality shows (Married at First Sight, anyone?)
At least you’d know the participants would be doing it for the kicks and not to launch their careers as Instagram influencers.
