UK protestors raise $23,000 – to launch giant ‘Trump baby’ blimp

Yes, really. The crowdfunded campaign demolished its original target of $9,000, raising (at last count) $23,062 (12,958 pounds) to get the six-metre-high, inflatable orange figure up in the air ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to London on 13 July.

An ‘artist’s impression’ of how the blimp will look

So why a giant, flying baby?

“Moral outrage is water off a duck’s back to Trump. But he really seems to hate it when people make fun of him,” the crowdfunding page reads.

The activists say they want him to know all of Britain is looking down and laughing at him.

But despite hitting their targets, the protestors may not get their wish with London Mayor Sadiq Khan denying them permission to fly the blimp as it does not qualify as a protest.

That’s not stopping them however – over 8,000 people have now signed a petition, titled ‘Let Baby Trump Fly’, calling for the blimp to be allowed to fly over Parliament Square during the visit.

Otherwise the protestors say they will hire a barge to “guarantee that Trump Baby will fly”.

Stranger things have happened.
