There’s a good boy! Man in the US opens retirement home for homeless older dogs

Missouri man Dr Russell Clothier (pictured) has opened the new Shep’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary for displaced older pups to call home for their final years, after he was saddened by the number of elderly dogs not being adopted out of the shelter he volunteered at.

Dr Clothier named the new home after Shep (pictured), his adorable adopted 10-year-old beagle-basset hound mix.

“We believe senior dogs deserve to live out their lives in a safe, loving environment. Our facility and volunteers are dedicated to caring for these dogs, to give them the support and attention they have lost”, says the Sanctuary’s website.

“We will try to find new families for them, but if we can’t, we will be their family and home, for as long as they live”.

The Sanctuary’s four-acre property includes kennels for up to 20 dogs, plus a special shower and a large outdoor play yard for “outside time”.

Sounds like a pretty fantastic retirement life to us.
