Around 100 residents at VMCH’s aged care homes and retirement villages have been busy creating over 2,500 items including pens, notepads, soaps and decorations for the hampers which are packed and delivered by VMCH staff to 500 disadvantaged people.
The hampers are part of VMCH’s award-winning Arts in Action program, which is designed to help residents use their artistic skills and give them a social outlet – and the recipients appreciate their efforts too.
Balwyn affordable housing resident Michael Cutler says he’s been thrilled to receive a hamper for the last two years.
“I think it means a lot to a lot of people, especially if they’re on their own [around Christmas]”, he said.
To say thanks, a group of the affordable housing residents have in turn made some Christmas wreaths for the aged care homes this year – a great way to give something back.
