Tasmania Symphony Orchestra streaming into aged care homes

COVID-19 has severely hit many industries, but the arts industry is one to have been badly hit.

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) has announced the launch of TSO Community, a digital-based initiative, that will provide easily accessible and flexible content to community aged care facilities.

“We are so pleased now to have a way to be present and of service to Tasmanian elders and residents in community care. Music is such a powerful contributor to health and well-being – it improves mood, reduces anxiety, stimulates memory and when shared, it becomes a social glue,” said TSO CEO Carline Sharpen.

“Tasmania’s orchestra exists for everyone and now we have a way to perform live and on demand for Tasmanians who can’t make it to a concert venue. We can’t wait to welcome this valued and important audience to the TSO.”

The program is being launched with Uniting AgeWell, an aged care service based across Tasmania and Victoria, providing both residential and in-home care services, as well as retirement living facilities.

The program will be initially launched within Uniting AgeWell’s Latrobe Community, Strathdevon, in Northern Tasmania, and will be available to all community facilities.

It offers livestreamed recordings of in-depth pre-concert presentations introducing the orchestra members, and music being performed.

TSO Community is available to all aged care facilities, with monthly subscriptions starting at $90 per month for up to ten screens. More information can be found on the TSO website.

What a splendid idea. I would love to hear more symphony orchestras get on board.
