A striking sculpture celebrating valour has been unveiled at RSL LifeCare’s Birdwood Park aged-care and retirement village in Newcastle, New South Wales.

RSL LifeCare commissioned Sydney sculptor Vivienne Lowe to create the Valour Sculpture at Birdwood Park, which houses both the Badcoe House aged care facility and Long Tan Village.

The sculpture is dedicated to the brave servicemen and women who took part in the Vietnam War.

Standing at 2.5m tall, the artwork depicts a seed from a woody pod after it was razed by bushfire as a representation of bravery during the horrors of war.

“Under circumstances where extremes warrant extraordinary behaviour, it can manifest as heroic actions,” Ms Lowe told Hospital and Healthcare.

“The Valour Sculpture uses the analogy of the seed pod and its release of the seed to symbolise bravery in our soldiers.”

A wonderful tribute to our veterans.
