A carer at HammondCare Miranda, Blazenka “Blarsha” Walmsley is aiming to raise $100,000 for HammondCare’s 42-bed aged care home being built in Darlinghurst.
The home is the first facility in Sydney for people who are homeless or at risk of homeless and will provide specialist services for people with high healthcare needs.
Ms Walmsley has already door-knocked, held a raffle and in December last year, did a sponsored five-hour walk from her home in Miranda to the site. She’s also secured donations from a number of businesses including a $10,000 donation from Club York in the city.
Ms Walmsley, who also performs karaoke two days a week for residents, says she saw many homeless people when she lived in the inner city and feels we should be doing what we can in our own backyard.
We admire her passion for caring and helping others.
