Welsh man Mark Williams, 43, has proven to be a man of his word after promising to bare all for the media if he won the Championship – after failing to qualify last year and not having a major win since 2011.
Mr Williams defeated John Higgins 18-6 to take out the title, making him the oldest winner since 1978 – but meaning he’d have to show up in his birthday suit.
Using a sponsor’s towel to conceal his ‘cue’ before shedding it before a cheering media pack, he admitted he was a bit uncomfortable.
“It’s a bit cold in here! But if I never win another tournament I won’t care, I have done something I thought I’d never do.”
So will he pull the same stunt if he defends the title in 2019?
“To be honest, if I win this next year, I’ll do this again. I’ll cartwheel round here naked,” he said.
