Ted (pictured, seated), a resident at KOPWA’s Roseville aged care home on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, has always had a keen interest in construction, so when Total Construction arrived to build a new 102-bed aged care home at the site, his curiosity was naturally piqued.

Recognising his interest, the team at KOPWA approached the construction team who were happy to make him part of their crew, issuing Ted with a four weekly construction program, hard hat and a backpack complete with an onboarding pack and including him in a Total staff site induction.

“Ted loves to sit and watch what’s going on. Steve and the Total Construction team have made him feel part of their crew, and because of this, we have seen an improvement in his general wellbeing and happiness. He wakes up with a smile and purpose for the day,” KOPWA’s CEO Paul Smith said.

Total Construction have also installed a series of large viewing platforms so that residents, their families and staff can be involved in the building process.

“We’re designing someone’s home – places we’d like to live in, want our families to live in, or we’d like to visit,” Total Construction’s Managing Director, Steve Taylor added.

We’re sure Ted and his fellow residents will feel right at home in the new building when it’s complete.
