Staying fit while staying home

0

When you consider everything that’s happened in 2020, you’d be excused for fitness being the last thing on your mind. But staying physically and mentally active is well worth the effort.

That’s the message from Cranbrook Care’s Physiotherapist Sanjay Gupta, who says physically and mentally fitness are two of the most important things to maintain as we age.

“Staying fit whilst staying home can be challenging and with a little focus it can be done. The most important thing we can do to stay fit and independent is stay physically active,” says Sanjay.

“The more active we remain, the better the chance of keeping our muscles strong, our joints mobile and maintaining good balance.”

So, how do we get started?

Sanjay says 30 minutes of physical activity a day, five days a week is a good start.

And you don’t have to worry about doing it all in one go – 10-15 minutes slots of activity work just as well.

The lifestyle team at Cranbrook Care have also coordinated a wide range of activities to keep residents mentally sharp including games, arts and crafts, concerts and seminars.

Staying physically and mentally sharp in the pandemic is a challenge, but it’s one that’s well worth the effort!
