Spritely Japanese seniors’ novel way to keep active and earn extra money

With ride sharing banned in Japan, Uber is turning to a unique strategy – older citizens delivering food on foot.

Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi was in Japan last week to look at opportunities to build up Uber Eats and says it could be where older Japanese find their niche in the employment market.

The Japanese population is ageing, adult diapers outsell baby diapers and older people are tapping into food delivery to find jobs.

And while most food delivery workers use a bicycle or scooter, seniors in Japan in search of exercise are putting on their running shoes.

Add to the fact that a new study out of the UK that followed 15,000 people over 20 years found those whose activity levels increased lived longer regardless of previous activity levels or other factors like diet, obesity or blood pressure.

So, proof, it’s never too late to start boosting your longevity with exercise, just like the Japanese and Uber Eats.
