Southern Cross Care (VIC) promises personalised help at home for people with dementia

The Not for Profit has launched an in-home Dementia Advisory Service in south Melbourne for people who have received a diagnosis of dementia to help them adapt to their changing situation.

Clients who sign up to the service will have a dementia healthcare specialist visit their home or village unit to offer advice specifically tailored to their individual needs and situation.

For example, they can see how you or your family member finds the fridge and toilet and can suggest using different colours or images on the doors.

The service also provides follow-up support, including more visits, telephone support and online using Skype or FaceTime, with the same advisor – ensuring you or your loved one receives continuity of care.

Practical support for people and their carers

It’s available to anyone aged 65 and over living in the southern metropolitan region of Melbourne covering Kingston, Bayside, Frankston and Mornington Peninsula including the area’s retirement villages.

“A dementia diagnosis does not mean a person has to give up the things that they love or enjoy. It may simply mean making some small changes in their life to make daily living easier and help them maintain a sense of control,” Southern Cross Care (VIC) CEO Andrew Newton said.

You can request for a home visit by calling 1800 508 008 or email memorysupport@sccv.org.au. SCC (VIC) also accepts referrals from community service providers, health care professionals or through myagedcare.
