“Something fishy”: Penguins detained by New Zealand police after ‘staking out’ local sushi shop

0

Wellington police confirmed that have released two “waddling vagrants” back into the world (little blue penguins, pictured) after they were taken into custody for setting up shop under a sushi outlet.

The birds’ cover was apparently blown after a staff member heard a “cooing, humming” sound coming from nearby, only to discover the penguins huddled underneath the shop to keep warm.

It wasn’t the first time police had received reports of the little intruders, either. With around 600 pairs of penguins calling the nearby harbour home, they’re often seen around – and have apparently been staking out the sushi shop as their next target for some time.

That’s certainly one way to get your fresh fish without trying too hard!
