There are plenty of industries feeling the pinch at the moment, but if reports are to be believed snake-catching is certainly not one of them.
Raymond Hoser, a snake catcher from Melbourne, told AAP he’s been busier than ever, and interestingly COVID-19 is part of the reason why.
“Because people are at home and they’re not out and about… we’ve got a perfect storm where people will see more snakes,” he said.
Mr Hoser is expecting even more callout requests as we enter spring, which is usually the period where he sees the most business.
“If you see a snake don’t go near it. Nine times out of 10 if they’re in your garden they’re passing through,” he added.
This seems like pretty good advice, especially when you consider the story coming out of Queensland earlier this week, where two large carpet snakes fell through the ceiling of retiree David Tait’s home.
The snakes measured between 2.8m and 2.5m long, and were described by snake catcher Steven Brown on the Today Show as “some of the biggest and fattest” snakes he’d ever seen.
Now that’s one way to spoil your morning cuppa!
