Sir Patrick Stewart uses medicinal cannabis every day. Why?

The 76-year-old British actor has revealed he uses cannabis products to manage arthritis pain in his hands.

The classically trained actor made the statement to support a UK-first initiative at Oxford University looking at the benefits of cannabis-based medication.

In the statement, the Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men star said he had been using an ointment, spray and edible medical marijuana since being prescribed them by a doctor in LA two years ago – and they’re working with no negative side effects.

“I believe this program of research might result in benefits for people like myself as well as millions of others,” he says.

Marijuana is currently not recognised as having any medicinal value in the UK, but there is a push to have it legalised – like it has been here in Australia.
