Retirement village management now a recognised profession supporting residents

People considering a retirement village are not likely to be thinking about the qualifications of the Village Manager, but it is a really important fact in the equation to join a village.

If you think about it, a retirement village is not much different to say a big hotel. The village has residents, property, food and leisure facilities, and a lot of people coming and going.

With all this activity there are a large number of regulations to administer, like fire and health, both of which we have had big lessons in the past six months.

The Village Manager is responsible for all this, plus the satisfaction of the residents in their living situation in the village.

It’s a complex job that requires accountable skills – and recognition.

To get an idea of the skills that are required to be a Village Manager, and what you should be asking about, you can check out the village management professional development portal our sister group, the DCM Institute. Check it out here.

Professional training is also required under the NSW Government’s Rules of Conduct for retirement villages, plus the village industry Code of Conduct. You can check if the village has this Code of Conduct seal to verify they are maintaining a training program.

It signifies the village owner is investing in the Village Manager and the best experience for the residents.
