Is this the retirement village of the future?

A new development planned for Brisbane will offer retirement living unit, aged care, health care and child care all rolled into one.

‘Collective Health and Wellness’ is the work of local property developer Pikos Group, and was inspired by the Mayo Clinics in the United States.

Based on the idea “the needs of the patients comes first”, they provide a range of specialised health services all under one roof.

The development, which would be spread across two neighbouring buildings at Woolloongabba, will include a day hospital and shops and is located across from both the Mater Public and Private Hospitals – making it a complete health, retirement and aged care precinct.

Care and community in one

It’s not the only development of its kind. In Wollongong, a $500 million health care, aged care and retirement living precinct is being built at University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus in partnership with Lendlease.

No one likes to think about falling ill when we plan for retirement, but it does happen and is worth considering in your downsizing plans.

Studies have shown distance to hospital can make a big difference to your survival if you do need medical help.
