Retirement village couple celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary

The first day of Spring is always a special time for Ken and Joan Potter, but this year the date took a particularly special significance as it marked their 75th wedding anniversary.

The couple, who live together at Living Choice Twin Waters retirement village in Queensland, married on 1 September 1945 after meeting nine months earlier at a party.

“I already had a boyfriend,” said Joan.

“But Ken was persistent and we were engaged in February 1945. In those days, because of the war, you didn’t waste any time.”

This is the third milestone they’ve celebrated at Living Choice Twin Waters, after marking their 60th anniversary in 2005 and their 70th 10 years later.

They celebrated the date with a special lunch and a Zoom session for family members from other states who were unable to attend.

Not many relationships stand the test of time (for 75 years!) so they must be doing something right.
