Launched by British grocer Tesco, the EasyAvo has a thicker and corkier skin that’s designed to separate more easily from the fruit flesh – making it easier for Millennials to make their beloved smashed avo.
Developed in South Africa, it’s a naturally grown hybrid of different avocado varieties which Tesco says will stop the increasing scourge of ‘avocado hand’ – when someone preparing an avo stabs themselves instead – on society.
Will the EasyAvo solve this? Not likely as the real danger is the avo pit, according to Australian plastic surgeon Neela Janakiramanan.
She says she’s treated way more avo-related injuries than gunshot wounds – case in point: a woman told 3AW Breakfast last week she managed to sever a nerve while using a steak knife to de-seed a slippery avo.
So, even if the new variety becomes available here, we’re not certain the danger is over yet.
