For many frail, elderly and disabled people, Christmas is one of the loneliest times of the year – so this year Red Cross is reaching out.
Their national network of Telecross volunteers makes phone calls to over 4,000 clients every day, including Christmas Day, to check on their wellbeing.
“For people who have limited contact with family or friends, a phone call from Red Cross on Christmas Day makes a world of difference. It’s especially important at Christmas, which can be a really tough time for many people,” NSW State Lead Social Inclusion, Lona Kuchey says.
Around two-thirds of its calls go to people aged over 80 with another 27 per cent to people aged between 65 and 80.
