Real-life ‘Hungry Hungry Hippos’ and ‘social distancing’ bingo: aged care homes get creative under coronavirus lockdown

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, one of the biggest concerns is social isolation – particularly in aged care homes which have closed their doors to visitors to protect their residents (as mentioned above).

Luckily, our aged care staff are there to help – like an aged care home in Wales, where staff have been cheering up residents with life-size board games.

The Bryn Celyn Care Home attached baskets to long poles, set out a pile of ball pit balls, and had their wheelchair-bound residents act as the ‘hippos’ – creating a giant version of the classic game Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Australia’s aged care homes are also coming up with new ways to entertain residents. At Christadelphian Aged Care’s Chamberlain Gardens home, residents have been practising social distancing while still enjoying their beloved bingo with a new version – ‘Hallway Bingo!’ (pictured).

It’s good to know our residents can still have fun while staying safe.
