Remember when Domino’s launched that Vegemite pizza? Well, rival Pizza Hut is not to be outdone in the pizzafication of Aussie food staples, and has come out with a new offering of its own.
The new “Schnitzza” range replaces the normal pizza base with a circular chicken schnitzel, creating an unholy hybrid of schnitzel and pizza (or, to look at it another way, a weird chicken parmigiana). Four flavours are available: Hawaiian, Creamy Ham & Mushroom, BBQ Beef & Ham, and Margherita. Each is available for $18 delivered or $15 picked up.
Tamsin Lysons, Pizza Hut Australia’s national marketing manager, says the question of whether a schnitzel with sauce and cheese is a parmi, a parmy, or a parma has now been “put to bed”.
“It’s a Schnitzza. The fusion of crispy chicken schnitzel combined with delicious pizza toppings has created this year’s hottest food hybrid,” she said.
That may be so, but it’s only opened up another front in a different war – if people can’t agree on whether or not pineapple belongs on a pizza, will they ever agree if it belongs on a Schnitzza?
