Around 20 Feros Care Residential Villages residents aged between 80 and 97 years in Byron Bay have done a series of workshops with local street artist Teazer to ‘pimp their ride’ – a Toyota Commuta bus – with a colourful new design.
The group – dubbed the Feros Grow Bold CREWSTARS – did three weekly workshops to create the design which was then painted onto the bus.
Residents were also treated to an introduction to street art, from the history of graffiti through to modern street artists such as Banksy.
CEO Jenenne Buckley says the project shows that you are never too old to learn new skills or ways of expressing yourself – and that life can be fun at any age.
“One group of residents even rolled up to the workshops blasting The Beastie Boys!” she said.
Residents also say they got a lot out of the experience. CREWSTAR Lois, 91, said: “It is entirely different to any art I have done before, and I have been an artist my whole life. It was a complete surprise, I loved it.”
