Perth liquor store bans customers – from paying with ‘sweaty money’

Cellarbrations in Nollamara has been forced to put up a sign barring customers from paying with cash concealed in their underwear or socks, WAToday reports.

Owner Michael Nicolof told local radio that customers attempting to pay with sweaty money had become a “daily occurrence”, and the sign had become a necessity for his staff and himself as Perth heads into summer.

“The females that come in tend to hide it in their bra – and that would be tucked in under the arm or under the breast – and the males tend to put it in the top of their sock,” he said.

However it was one particular episode that prompted the sign.

“I had an incident with a male customer where he’s actually taken his shoe off, and he’s taken his sock off and there was money in the arch of his foot – and look, that’s money we don’t want to touch,” he said.

Mr Nicolof said that while he understood why a couple of customers had taken offence when they were refused, it was sales that his business could do without.

Agreed – some things are just better kept to yourself.
