The conversations of life

Perth is spending $400,00 on a toilet to keep up its social media following

Yes, you heard us right.

The Crawley Edge Boatshed, a beautiful blue structure that sits just four kilometres south of the Perth’s CBD (pictured), is the most photographed attraction in the city – welcoming hundreds of snap-happy tourists every year.

The problem? While the shed is perfect for a picturesque Instagram shot, it’s not very convenient.

The nearest public bathroom is nearly two-and-a-half kilometres away, and local restaurateurs are (understandably) getting very sick of random tourists constantly stopping by to use their toilets without paying for anything.

So now Perth’s city council is investing in a new solar-powered bathroom to be built near the shed – for a whopping $400,000 (with annual maintenance expected to cost around $20,000).

The city’s proposal said the new toilet would “allow visitors to the area the respite they need, without exhausting the current business facility’s capacity.”

Guess they’ll do anything for some likes!
