Pauline Hanson is calling for Australians to boycott Cadbury. Why?

The One Nation leader is urging us to avoid brands like Cadbury that offer halal-certified chocolates and instead support ‘non-halal’ products this Easter.

Posted in a video on her Facebook page, Ms Hanson suggests consumers buy Lindt or Darrell Lea as an alternative. “If you want to actually support these companies, do it,” she says.

Halal certification ensures that a food product doesn’t contain pork, blood or alcohol, which are all prohibited under Islamic teachings.

Companies must pay a fee for certification and One Nation’s website says buying halal-certified products equates to “financially supporting the Islamisation of Australia”.

Many Australian companies insist however the certification is essential to exporting their products overseas.

Of course, if you decided to boycott all halal-certified products, you’d be missing out on some iconic Aussie staples – Vegemite, Bega Cheese and Weetbix are all halal-certified.
