The National Climate Assessment has been prepared by the country’s top scientists from 13 agencies every four years since the 1980’s and is supposed to guide the President, Congress and the public on climate issues.
But Donald Trump has dismissed the report, which says that climate change will cost the US economy billions of dollars by the end of the century.
“I’ve seen it, I’ve read some of it, and it’s fine,” he said at the White House this week. [But] “I don’t believe it.”
It’s not the first time the President has failed to acknowledge the warnings on climate change.
In 2017, Trump announced he planned to withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement, which requires countries to establish targets to cut down on the greenhouse gases that cause global warming.
And as we covered here, the administration removed all mentions of ‘climate change’ from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website in April, saying its resources were being ‘updated’.
Now the pages don’t even exist. Instead, they say: “We want to help you find what you’re looking for.”
How about some leadership to save the planet?
