Only in America: Trump walks out on briefing when quizzed on doctor’s alien DNA theories

US President Donald Trump’s response to the COVID crisis has ranged from bizarre to genuinely troubling, and a recent briefing makes it seem like it’s not going to change any time soon.

Trump walked out of a recent press briefing after being told a doctor he had endorsed on Twitter, also believes alien DNA is used to make medicine.

The President had tweeted a video of Dr Stella Immanuel endorsing the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 earlier this week, despite the World Health Organisation (WHO) ending a trail of the drug after interim results showed it didn’t work.

But Dr Immanuel has a history of endorsing dubious science and religious theories, and this prompted one reporter from CNN to ask the President why he had retweeted the video.

“I don’t know which country she comes from, but she said that she’s had tremendous success with hundreds of different patients,” Mr Trump said.

“And I thought her voice was an important voice, but I know nothing about her.”

After that Trump walked out of the press conference.

With cases continuing to rise, the US is in desperate need of strong leadership.

Moments like this are not a great look.
