Donald Trump looks set to join another exclusive club – but not one he had planned to.
With the US President all but set to hand over the reins to Joe Biden in 2021, he will join a list of officials who only happened to serve one term in the Oval Office.
The last President to serve one term was George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993 – almost 30 years ago.
Other US Presidents who have also only served one term after seeking re-election include:
- John Adams (1797-1801)
- John Quincy Adams (1825-1829)
- Martin Van Buren (1837-1841)
- Benjamin Harrison (1889-1893)
- William Howard Taft (1909-1913)
- Herbert Hoover (1929-1933)
- Gerald Ford (1974-1977)
- Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
There’s been barely a dull moment in the Trump Presidency – and it may not be quite over yet.
Media reports suggest Trump is now weighing up another tilt at the White House in 2024 – which he can do as Presidents can serve two terms in the US.
He may face some challenges however. Two comedians have already snapped the domain DonaldJTrump2024.com – and filled it with headlines such as ‘I lost the 2020 election’ and ‘Trump is a loser’.
Looks like it will be a long road back.
