Only in America: Trump says he’s “all for masks” – despite never wearing one in public

The US President has done an about-face, saying he is “all for masks” including for himself – despite never donning one in front of the cameras.

Appearing on Fox Business Network, Trump said he “would have no problem” wearing one in public.

“People have seen me wearing one. If I’m in a group of people where we’re not, you know, 10 feet away and, but usually I’m not in that position and everyone is tested. Because I’m the President, they get tested before they see me. But if I were in a tight situation with people – I would absolutely,” Trump said.

Trump also maintained he had worn a mask during part of his tour of a Ford plant in Detroit back in May, even though he was not photographed wearing it.

“It was a dark black mask and I thought it looked okay. Looked like the Lone Ranger,” he joked.

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that mask use is recommended but not required but around 20 states have mandated their use in public and many are calling on the President to set an example for the country by wearing one.

The US has now recorded nearly 2.7 million confirmed Covid-19 infections and more than 128,000 deaths, but in the same interview, the President repeated his belief that the coronavirus will “just disappear” eventually.

“I think we are going to be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that’s going to sort of just disappear, I hope,” Trump said.

Considering the US just hit a new record high of 52,000 new coronavirus cases in a day and its top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci warned this week the country could see 100,000 coronavirus cases a day without more action to slow its spread, that seems like wishful thinking at best – stupidity at worst.
