Few things sum up the pandemic in the US as much as last week’s news that Donald Trump had managed to contract the virus.
But if you were hoping this would signal the start of the US President taking the disease seriously, you would be severely disappointed.
After three nights in Walter Reed Medical Centre in Maryland, Trump returned to the White House on Tuesday, touting the benefits of an experimental antibody treatment he had received.
The treatment is untested and unavailable to the public, but that didn’t stop the President labelling it a miracle “cure” to the pandemic.
“For me, I walked in, I didn’t feel so good and 24 hours later I was feeling great,” he said, in a five-minute video he posted to Twitter.
“I wanted to get out of hospital. I feel great, I feel like perfect. I think this was a blessing from God that I caught it, this was a blessing in disguise.”
Trump’s cavalier approach to the virus has alarmed medical experts given the fact that there are still hundreds of US citizens dying from COVID every day.
With over 200,000 deaths in the US and counting, you’d hope he’s right.
