The US President has encouraged the world’s leaders to be more optimistic about the future of the planet at the forum in Davos Switzerland this week, dismissing calls for more action on the climate crisis.
“To embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse,” Trump said.
“This is not a time for pessimism. This is a time for optimism. Fear and doubt is not a good thought process because this is a time for tremendous hope and joy and optimism and action,” he added.
Climate change is one of the main items on the agenda at Davos with the US under pressure to do more to fight global warming as it prepares to leave the Paris climate accord which is designed to reduce the world’s greenhouse emissions.
The President did speak about his own ‘green’ initiatives, saying he wants “clean” air and water (or is that dishes?) and that the US would be joining ‘One Trillion Trees’, a program with the goal of restoring a trillion trees by 2050.
Possibly Trump should start with the fact the US is the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the world first.
