More women will be on the ballot in the November election at the federal, state and local levels than ever before in what activists say is a reaction to President Trump, according to The Washington Times.
In total, 23 women – 15 Democrats – will be running for seats in the Senate; 239 women – 187 Democrats – for seats in the House; and 16 women – 12 Democrats – running for governor.
There’s also another 3,379 women running for state legislative seats – beating the previous record by a huge 730 candidates.
Democrats say many women are stepping forward to send a message to the US President with some candidates dating their interest in running back to taking part in the Women’s March on Washington after Trump was elected in 2016.
Of course, women still have a long way to go towards equal representation in US politics. But with the Liberals here on track to have their lowest number of women in the House of Reps since the early 1990s – America, we have to salute you.
