Only in America: Melania Trump invites bullied kid to Trump’s State of the Union address – he falls asleep

1

11-year-old Joshua Trump has emerged the unlikely hero of the US President’s State of the Union address after he promptly fell asleep during the 82-minute speech – despite just sitting two seats away from the First Lady.

The Year 6 student – no relation to the President – was one of 13 specially invited guests of Trump  after revealing he’d been bullied because of his surname (we definitely say no to bullying).

Of course, the address was a marathon at one hour, 22 minutes and 21 seconds – and the 9pm start was well past the youngster’s bedtime.

But that hasn’t stopped the collective Internet from hailing Joshua as “a Trump they can get behind”.

Sadly, the kid missed out some seminal moments, namely House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s sarcastic applause after Trump called for bipartisanship and the refusal of the Democratic congresswomen – dressed in white – to clap when the President pledged to end late-term abortions.

As they say, a picture really does say a thousand words.
