Fans of Back to the Future rejoice – because after 40 years, the DeLorean is back.
Only this one, to be officially revealed on 18 August by the new owners of the DeLorean brand, doesn’t have the internal combustion engine that gave Marty and Doc so much grief in the Old West: it’s a fully electric vehicle.
Ahead of the big unveiling on the Awards Ramp at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, the DeLorean Motor Company showed off the picture above – the official name of the car will be announced at the event.
“Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype three days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble Beach,” said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc.
The current DeLorean Motor Company was founded in 1995, and has up to now focused on restoring and servicing the original DeLoreans – this is the new DMC’s first car of its own.
We can only hope the new electric DeLorean, which certainly does look like a futuristic vehicle from the distant year of 2015, will come with flight systems, flux capacitor and Mr Fusion as standard.
