Only in America: French officials dismiss Trump’s ideas for putting out Notre Dame blaze

We’re sure you watched news of the massive fire that broke out on the roof of the iconic 800-year-old cathedral on Monday night.

The fire destroy the cathedral’s spire (pictured) and collapsed the roof.

Tributes to the historic building flowed on social media – including one that came from the US President.

But instead of the giving the typical condolences expected of a world leader in international disasters, Trump tweeted his own idea for handling the emergency, suggesting that “perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out” (pictured inset).

But French officials were quick to push back on the remark, tweeting a statement saying, “all means” were being used to contain the fire – “except for water-bombing aircrafts which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire structure”.

A fair point. Perhaps the President shouldn’t quit his day job to become a firefighter just yet.
