Police in Indiana have engaged in a thrilling low-speed chase to apprehend a daring thief in a stolen street sweeper.
Richmond local Sammy H. Allen, aged 54, was caught after an hour-long chase at speeds reaching a nail-biting 15 miles per hour (around 24 km/h), following his theft of the sweeper from a construction company.
According to Richmond Police Captain Curt Leverton, Allen evaded spike strips during the pursuit and struck a garage several times, nearly flipping the sweeper as he tried to escape.
“It was reported the driver struck other vehicles, however officers did not locate any damaged vehicles. The driver was also reported to be swerving at people like he was trying to hit them and driving through residential yards,” he said.
The chase ended when Allen drove the sweeper into a river and was captured by officers with the assistance of police dogs.
