Are older voters really to blame for Donald Trump’s win?

It’s the map that’s gone viral on social media – claiming to show that if only 18 to 25-year-olds in the US had voted, Hillary Clinton would be president.

But it’s a fake.

Published by US statistics site SurveyMonkey, the infographic was created before polling day based on how people said they would vote.

But only around 124 million people cast a ballot – half of the 241 million Americans eligible to vote, a much lower turnout than predicted.

And historically, less voters always see the Republican candidate elected.

There’s also no way to know who voted for who by their age.

One thing is clear: if more people had actually voted, the outcome could have been very different.
