Australians are only second behind our Danish counterparts when it comes to having the resilience to deal with technological change and ageing, according to a report by services groups Mercer and Marsh & McLennan.

A combination of the structure of our economy, our superannuation scheme and a high standard of education and training means we’re ready to tackle change.

Mercer partner David Knox, “With life expectancy increasing, most individuals need to work longer to ensure they are better placed for their retirement years.”

D Knox says we’re not immune to the way society views ageing and our workplace is also under threat.

“Ageing and workplace automation to governments, communities, and employers cannot be overestimated.”

When individual countries are weighed against these factors, Australia comes out relatively well, scoring an index measure of 20.3 compared with top performer Denmark at 20.4.

Canada is at 19.2, the Netherlands 18.8, the US 17.2 and the UK 16.4
