Aged care workers in the Northern Territory are the most vaccinated in Australia as the week has shown the need to be vaccinated after two residents from Hardi’s Wyoming Aged Care facility in Summer Hill, sadly died.

From 17 September, a COVID-19 vaccination will be mandatory for all residential aged care workers. Western Australia and South Australia have mandated the provision.

The Australian Government’s Department of Health told The Donaldson Sisters yesterday that 99 per cent of residential aged care facilities across the nation have reported on the COVID-19 vaccination status of their workforce since weekly reporting became mandatory on 15 June.

“Of the total 275,525 residential aged care workers reported to date by providers, 168,154 have received a first dose COVID-19 vaccine (61 per cent) and 111,976 have had a second dose (41 per cent),” the spokeswoman said.

  • NSW – of 82,027 staff reported by providers, 52,980 have received a first dose (64 per cent), and 36,405 have had a second dose (44 per cent).
  • VIC – of 76,357 staff reported by providers, 52,940 have received a first dose (69 per cent), and 36,233 have had a second dose (47 per cent).
  • QLD – of 51,883 staff reported by providers, 27,097 have received a first dose (52 per cent), and 16,714 have had a second dose (32 per cent).
  • SA – of 28,324 staff reported by providers, 16,225 have received a first dose (57 per cent), and 10,616 have had a second dose (37 per cent).
  • WA – of 24,993 staff reported by providers, 12,419 have received a first dose (50 per cent), and 7,318 have had a second dose (29 per cent).
  • TAS – of 7,838 staff reported by providers, 4,376 have received a first dose (56 per cent), and 3,179 have received a had dose (41 per cent).
  • ACT – of 3,164 staff reported by providers, 1,448 have received a first dose (46 per cent), and 991 have received a had dose (31 per cent).
  • NT – of 939 staff reported by providers, 669 have received a first dose (71 per cent), and 520 have had a second dose (55 per cent).

The Western Australian Government has said that any worker who enters an aged care home without a vaccination faces fines of up to $20,000, with the corporate body up to $100,000, which is the same penalties in place for failing to have a flu vaccine in residential care.

We are making progress then.
