The car, which has its own Top Gear-inspired mascot named The Stink, was unveiled this week by Queensland Urban Utilities.
How does it work? The car runs on electricity generated from sewage collected from around 300,000 people at Brisbane’s Oxley Creek Sewage Treatment Plant – a saving of around $1,900 a year on fuel.
The same technology also provides up to 50 per cent of the plant’s electricity needs, saving up to $2.5 million a year and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
Their spokesperson Michelle Cull says they now hope to power their entire fleet by poo in the future, but in the meantime, they expect the Car to turn a few heads.
“If you see us, give us a wave. Your latest flush may be keeping our motor running!” she said.
