0

Deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing senior Australians can now access a free sign language interpreting service through aged care programs or the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Services are available face-to-face and by video remote, and can be used for activities like:

  • Family and social events
  • Banking
  • Moving/selling house
  • Dealing with agencies and advisors

The services are available in a few different types of sign language including Auslan, American Sign Language, International Sign Language and Signed English.

Once signed up, you’ll have access to 40 hours of interpreting per year.

So, how do you get started?

To book, all you need to do is get in touch with Auslan Connections.

They’ll give you a Department of Health booking code you can use each time you access a service.

You can do so through their website here, or by calling 1300 010 877.
