Homestyle Aged Care is opening what it bills as one of Victoria’s first aged care homes with a fully-equipped specialist rehabilitation gym.
Sunset Views Manor, slated for a January opening in Tarneit in Melbourne’s outer western suburbs, will feature a publicly-accessible rehabilitation facility with specialist equipment for people with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, or who are recovering from strokes.
According to Homestyle Aged Care CEO Tim Humphries, this model is one the provider has pioneered at its Rowville home, which employs qualified physiotherapists and occupational therapists who work one-on-one with residents.
“We’ve seen some spectacular results, including one resident who increased her strength, mobility and confidence so much that she was able to achieve her goal of leaving residential care and returning to live independently at home,” he said.
Allied health and physiotherapy provider Concentric Health Services will partner with Homestyle to deliver services in Tarneit, with Angeline Violi, director at Concentric, saying the aged care wellness programs on offer will be tailored to the individual.
“We strongly believe that moving into aged care should not mean a decline in physical wellbeing, but an opportunity to work on personal goals with the support of a dedicated allied health team.
“We want to put an end to the idea that aged care typically means regression, and this ongoing partnership allows us to work towards this goal,” she said.
A great initiative – and a great attitude.
